Payment Specialist

Full-Time | Irvine, CA | $22/hour

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Payment Specialist to join our team in Irvine, CA. In this role, you will handle cash collections for institutional loans, private loans, cash payment plans, and past-due balances for inactive student accounts. You will also support the Collections Supervisor in coordinating efforts with institutional loan servicers and third-party collection agencies, ensuring all activities comply with regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Make 80-100 outbound calls daily to contact inactive students with past-due balances and obtain payments.
  • Complete outbound calls, emails, and letters in alignment with assigned monthly and weekly collection goals.
  • Ensure full compliance with HEOA Disclosure, Regulation Z, Truth in Lending, and CFPB requirements.
  • Perform skip tracing to locate borrowers.
  • Maintain required daily/weekly collection activity levels.
  • Assist the Collections Supervisor with data collection, reporting, and coordination with third-party agencies.
  • Use internal system databases efficiently to support collection activities.
  • Help train the Collection Associate when needed.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or technical school;
  • OR 6 months-1 year of related experience/training;
  • OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work sensitively with students and families from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of collection-related regulations, including HEOA, Regulation Z, and Truth in Lending guidelines.
  • Ability to analyze numerical information and work with data accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Strong skip tracing skills and familiarity with system databases.
